Tom Manatos has over a decade of experience as a senior staffer to prominent lawmakers on Capitol Hill, including the Speaker of the House. Working in a number of high-level positions throughout his career, Manatos has developed an extensive network in DC as well as impressive policy and procedural knowledge. He is now able to put that to use for his advocacy and strategy work on behalf of the leading music streaming company in the world.
In all of the positions he has held, Manatos has established himself as a problem-solver and leader. He is recognized for his ability to organize and launch new initiatives, from recognizing a need to implementing actual change. Recognized for this skill, Manatos has been sought out to undertake such jobs.
Manatos is also talented at developing relationships, a natural ability that has served him and his bosses well throughout his time in DC. He has served as liaison to House Democrats and other national and local groups for both Speaker Pelosi and DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schulz. As a senior advisor to Speaker Pelosi, Manatos combined his liaison duties with constituent outreach, developing coalitions and building issues-based support on a national basis to ensure legislative success of initiatives important to the Speaker.
Manatos had the opportunity to work on historic legislation such as the Affordable Care Act, Wall Street Reform, and the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. More recently, Manatos successfully worked on Spotify’s behalf during the creation and passage of the Music Modernization Act.
Manatos entered the tech sector as Senior Director of Government Affairs at the Internet Association where he collaborated with the leading global Internet companies on the industry’s federal government affairs strategy and advocacy. Among his key issue areas, both there and at Spotify, are intellectual property, antitrust, consumer privacy, trade, and immigration/workforce issues. As such, he works closely with the House and Senate Judiciary Committees and also lobbies the White House and Executive Branch, the FTC, and the FCC.
During his years on the Hill, Manatos established himself as a key cog in the DC networking world when he created tommanatosjobs.com, a non-partisan website devoted to helping professionals find jobs in DC. Because of Manatos’ extensive network in the city, he is alerted to many job openings that may not appear anywhere else. He still operates the website, which has helped thousands of people find jobs.
Through his work on multiple Presidential campaigns, a Presidential inaugural and multiple Congressional campaigns, Manatos also had the opportunity to put his political savvy to use while growing his network well outside of DC.
Originally from the DC area, Manatos served as a U.S. Senate Page in high school and has been involved in government in some capacity ever since. Manatos earned his Bachelor of Science in Communications from Cornell University and his Master of Arts in Government from Johns Hopkins University.
